SAT Test Preparation

To comprehensively address all three sections of the SAT I, Ivy College Prep, LLC. conducts the following classes specifically for the SAT I sections in:

  • Critical Reading
  • Critical Writing
  • Math

There are specific homework assignments for each class. All homework is thoroughly reviewed and critiqued by the instructor.

The student first takes a diagnostic test to assess strengths and areas requiring attention. Then a customized study plan is designed for the student. The plan serves as a central focus for the student, the instructor and the director.

The course comprehensively covers the material used by the College Board in each subject area.

The Critical Reading course covers:

  • Sentence Completion
  • Passage-Based Reading

The Critical Reading course uses real SAT questions and reviews not just the correct answers, but all the answers, correct and incorrect. The course instructors recognize the students’ needs to get a full sense of the test and how questions might be phrased to confuse, and how answers might be devised to be partially correct and thereby intentionally misleading. Further the course uses the same books used by the ETS to design their questions. So examples, even those not specifically from a real SAT, are pertinent and possibly on future SATs.

The Writing course covers:

  • The Essay
  • Identifying Sentence Errors
  • Improving Sentences
  • Improving Paragraphs
  • The underlying grammar rules driving the above three areas

Staffed by top English and writing instructors, this course teaches the key aspects of effective essay creation:

  • Topic selection and refinement
  • Organization and focus
  • Development of Point of View and critical thinking
  • Effective use of vocabulary and language
  • Sentence structure variety
  • Grammar usage and mechanics

The Math course covers, thoroughly, all the subjects underlying the questions:

  • Numbers and Operations
  • Algebra and Functions
  • Geometry and Measurement
  • Data Analysis, Statistics and Probability
...but then it takes this one step further and defines how the test is structured, how the questions are phrased, and how to get into the mind of the test preparer. A series of actual SATs are given over the length of the course. Students become fully acclimated to the test, pacing, addressing types of questions, to thereby build a test strategy that will maximize their performance. With over 26 years of experience in teaching SAT built into these courses, the students gain a visceral sense of how to attack problems and then create their own effective strategies.
