The reading test is a computer-adaptive test, which means that if a student misses a question, the difficulty level is reduced. It measures easily and accurately the reading level of students in grades 1-12 in less than 12 minutes. Our desire is to assist the student in becoming a focused and effective reader. Once we know his or her reading level we know what type of reading material to recommend and to teach with. Our path to building a solid, fluid, and we hope, voracious reader is then better set.

The SAT diagnostic is done using a real SAT test. This will take approximately 3 ½ hours. We score the diagnostic (including the essay) to determine where the student is encountering challenges. Only after a thorough examination of the results do we recommend a curriculum for the student. Ivy College Prep has classes for each section of the SAT: Critical Reading, Writing and Math. So if the student is already scoring perfectly on the math section, he or she would be focusing on the writing and critical reading curriculum. Knowing which sections and what type of problems are the most challenging for the student, guides us in formulating the most effective course of study to assure a personal best score.
